Increasingly, people are employing trusted personal and professional networks to compile recommendations. Members of these networks are passively and virtually always available on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Successful companies are reacting by using these same social media platforms to <a href=\"https:\/\/webolutionsmarketingagency.com\/current-marketing-trends--invest-in-the-community-around-your-brand\/\">build communities around their brands<\/a>. They are monitoring online conversations for engagement opportunities and responding to comments.<\/p>\n<p>The amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/webolutionsmarketingagency.com\/social-media-and-mobile-marketing-still-gaining-importance-in-company-marketing-plans-nielsen\/\">time spent on Internet social networks<\/a> has forced the aforementioned change to calls to action in TV and print advertisements. The change is very conscious. At a recent annual meeting of enterprise TV executives, the pitch from broadcasters had shifted almost entirely to networks\u2019 prowess and acumen in social media. Advertising Age\u2019s Brian Steinberg summarized it thusly:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\"><em>Facebook posts? We do it. Viral video? Check. Real-time conversation? We spark more of it. Twitter feeds? Sure. Social media is the sort of stuff, the TV honchos, argued, for which their programs provide the greatest fuel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This&#8211;the only rational reaction from a medium witnessing increased marketing investment in new digital media, especially social media, while its sales plateau&#8211;is the new place for traditional media: The \u201cnon-opt-in\u201d channel serves as the gateway to the \u201copt-in\u201d channel.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cnon-opt-in\u201d marketing channel is one that appears somewhat involuntarily: A streetside billboard; an advertisement in the newspaper, on the radio or on TV; product placement in a movie. Social media is a \u201ctriple opt-in\u201d channel. In order to see a business\u2019s message on Facebook, a person must:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"post-list\">\n<li>Choose to have a Facebook account.<\/li>\n<li>Choose to \u201clike\u201d the business\u2019s Facebook page.<\/li>\n<li>Because Facebook\u2019s algorithm filters messages and newsfeeds bring in lots of information, the person must be expected to choose to visit the business\u2019s page on her own.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Add in the element of timing and the very short marketable life of a social media post and two things become obviously critical for success in social media marketing:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"post-list\">\n<li>Incentives to visit the social media asset, most importantly quality content.<\/li>\n<li>Continuous support of the channel through integration with non-opt-in channels.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>How to Use This Information<\/strong><br \/>\nAs consumer expectations for <a href=\"https:\/\/webolutionsmarketingagency.com\/current-marketing-trends--creating-customized-customer-experiences\/\">customization and personalization of message<\/a>, medium, product and service increase, advertising moves from \u201cone to many\u201d to \u201cone to one,\u201d and from \u201cbroadcast\u201d to \u201cconversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Opt-in marketing channels such as social media succeed much more quickly and measurably when integrated with and supported by non-opt-in channels including print and broadcast. Conversely, the age of non-opt-in channels succeeding on their own is fading.<\/p>\n<p>Even <a href=\"https:\/\/webolutionsmarketingagency.com\/digital-marketing-services\/paid-advertising-agency\/\">within social media, advertising can expedite Return on Investment (ROI)<\/a>.
